• Year 8

Welcome to the Upper School

Our Year 7 and 8 pupils feel a sense of achievement and privilege in reaching the Upper School, led by Mrs Anna Warren.

The curriculum remains diverse, challenging and entertaining but simultaneously prepares pupils appropriately for the relevant 13+ examinations.

We build on the excellent practices of the Pre Prep, Lower School and Middle School, maintaining a vibrant and diverse approach to learning, but focusing specifically on the needs of 13+. The pupils follow a different timetable and are expected to be more independent and organised. Behaviour guidelines and expectations are clear with good relationships between the staff and pupils.

Pupils are taught in well-resourced subject specialist rooms by subject specialist teachers to maximise continuity and to prepare each pupil appropriately throughout this important two years.

Academic focus is towards preparation for Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations in the final year. There is an increased timetable allocation for the core Common Entrance subjects and homework is set in all the examinable subjects.

In Year 8 our pupils experience a wide variety of leadership opportunities including House and sport captaincy (all pupils start as monitors and work towards promotion to full prefects). Along the way they complete weekly duties, leadership awards, and community service as well as demonstrating the right example around the school. Promoted pupils are awarded their tie in assembly and are rewarded with a special dinner organised by the Headmaster each term.

At the end of their time at Edge Grove our Year 8 pupils are socially and academically prepared for the transition to their chosen senior schools, feeling confident that they have been well prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

We offer 11+ Scholarships for entry to Year 7. Please click here for more information.
