Computing

The overall aims for Information Technology at Edge Grove are to deepen understanding of computer systems and to enrich learning for all pupils.

We hope that all pupils will be able to use IT with purpose and enjoyment, increasing IT skills and knowledge in line with technological advances.

The increasing use of technology in all aspects of society makes confident, creative and productive use of IT an essential skill for life. IT capability encompasses not only the mastery of technical skills and techniques, but also the understanding to apply these skills purposefully, safely and responsibly in learning, everyday life and employment. IT capability is fundamental to participation and engagement in modern society.

We have a fully resourced IT suite, iPads in the prep rep and lower school and in every department in the school. Each Year 8 pupil has their own personal iPad.

The school uses FireFly as a learning platform, our "digital textbook" and Google Classroom and Google Drive as our "digital workbooks".  Google Drive allows students to work anywhere on the school site on any platform, either individually or collaboratively.

The computing curriculum covers three key areas: digital literacy(using technology safely and responsibly), computer science (hardware and programming) and information technology (creating digital content).  This computing curriculum is delivered to all pupils from Reception to Year 8.
