Table-tennis

In December 2011 we entered 3 teams in the Herts U-11 Table-tennis Championships for the first time and were pleasantly surprised when the teams filled the top three places. As County champions the A team of four players then proceeded to the Zonal Final, held at Morpeth School in London on January 15th 2012. Once again the team proved unstoppable as they beat Heycroft (Essex county champions) and St Swithun's representing Hampshire. As winners of Zone 7 (there are 8 zones in England), Edge Grove move on to the Southern Regional Final in Bournemouth on February 25th where they will have to face 3 other teams including the winners of the London zone who are current National Champions.

Team: TJ O'Sullivan, Armando Shashoua, Thomas Walduck and James Walduck

Archery

Edge Grove Senior archery team travelled to Westcott (near Aylesbury) on Saturday January 14th 2012 for the only indoor shoot at 3-D animal targets set up amongst dozens of recycled Christmas trees. Becky Banks came first in the U-18 Recurve section for the 4th successive year and there were medals also won by Nathan Ujeyah (U-18 bronze) and Elliot Crocker, who had to be content with U-12 silver just behind former pupil Nikita Konovalchik.

IAPS National Soccer Sixes Champions - 2011

Could it be possible? Could the boys top off a simply stunning season? In short, YES!  Played 7, won 7 Edge Grove are finally the National Soccer Sixes Champions after a narrow defeat in 2005. Brilliantly captained by Seymour, well organised across the back by the ever dependable Babaoye, Webster and Xeureb (in goal).  Ably supported by Sankey and Slater who offered the team strength in depth and what is left to write about the strongest attacking partnership in Prep School Football - Alfa and Shashoua?!!

Wins against St Olave's (4-1), St Bede's (3-0), Rokeby (2-0), Parkside (2-0), and Yateley Manor (2-0) in the group stages saw us up against Foremarke Hall in the Semi Finals.  A 4-3 score-line made for an interesting last 2 minutes of that match for coach, Matt King, but a simply breathtaking first 3 minutes in the final against Cumnor House saw faith restored and the game sealed beyond doubt, as Edge Grove cantered to a 5-2 victory.

Kingshott 7's Football Tournament
1st Team
A strong set of results in our domestic season and winning form in the Regional sixes competition saw us go into the tournament with a strong chance. 10 boys from the current 1st team travelled to Kingshott on the 6th November to take part in the 28th annual competition. Wins against Beechwood Park (3-0: Shashoua 2, Paradise), St Martin's (6-2: Alfa 3, Weener, Seymour, Shashoua), Kingshott (3-2: Alfa 2, Shashoua), Felsted (3-0: Shashoua 2, Weener), Heathmount (5-0: Shashoua 3, Alfa, Seymour) and a draw against The Hall (2-2: Shashoua, Seymour) saw us win the competition in good style, making it 3 successes in 9 years for the Senior Group.

The team was:

Seymour (C), Xeureb, Baboaye, Webster, Shashoua, Slater, Sankey, Paradise, Alfa, Weener.

Colts A

v  Kimbolton Won 4-0. v Heath Mount won 1-0.  v St. Edmund's won 3-0.
Semi- Final:   v   The Hall won 3-1        Final: v St Martin's  won 3-2.

Our fine seasonal form was duly carried forward to the Kingshott Tournament. In the group stages we dominated all the games and took our place in the semi final against The Hall. Again our fast flowing football was too much for the opposition and we came through as comfortable winners.
The final was a hard fought affair and tested our character as we went a goal down early on. However, on the stroke of half time a fine run and shot from Thomas Walduck levelled the scores and gave us the lift we needed.
In the second half, we began to dominate and a cross from James on the right was knocked in by Thomas to put us 2-1 ahead. When Armando then added a third soon after, it motivated our opponents who now began to exert some pressure themselves. A goal in the last minute then lead to a nerve wracking final sixty seconds but we held on to achieve our just reward.  Well done to one and all on a truly wonderful day of football!

Scorers:  T Walduck  (x6) ,  Armando  (x3)  ,  Louis  (x3) ,   Boyd  and an own goal.
