About Us

Mission and Values

Edge Grove is a leading, proudly independent, co-educational, North London prep school, providing children aged 2-13 and from a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds with a uniquely child-centred education. Through this, they learn the intrinsic value of academic, co-curricular and pastoral independence and develop the ten core skills identified by the World Economic Forum in preparation for future success in education, employment and life.  Whatever their abilities, gender, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, all Edge Grove pupils develop IntegrityIndependence and Inspiration.

Many schools use three words as their marketing strapline, but few put their words into action in the same way as we do at Edge Grove!  More than just words on a minibus – or indeed a website, these three words are key to our whole child-centred philosophy of self-actualisation, based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and  deeply embedded in our educational methodology.

These three words could be translated into ‘Happy Children – Work Hard – To Achieve Excellence’. They replace top-down hierarchical, directive learning with an educational framework which supports every child to develop and enhance their unique skills, creativity and character.

Pupils feel healthy, safe, happy and proud to belong and be a unique part of the Edge Grove community. They enjoy friendship and fun, promote kindness, living and growing in alignment with the following self-elected 16 core Values:

Confidence Unity Creativity Kindness
Passion Responsibility Integrity Respect
Determination Risk-taking Trust Humility
Diversity Sportsmanship Empathy Tolerance

Pupils develop, through child-centred active learning, intellectual, physical and spiritual confidence and independence, self-motivation and agency across a broad range of academic, co-curricular and pastoral activities and experiences. They ask and answer questions, develop curiosity, a Growth Mindset, passion and entrepreneurship.

Pupils hone the following transferable, lifelong World Economic Forum skills for future success and personal fulfilment:

Analytical thinking and innovation Creativity, originality and initiative
Active learning and learning strategies Leadership and social influence
Complex problem-solving Reasoning, problem-solving and ideation
