Screen Free Week 2025 - Tuesday 6th-Friday 9th May
Below you will find information from Mrs Broadis about how we will be implementing Screen Free Week at Edge Grove and how you can get involved…
My article last week examined the rationale for such a week, sharing the growing concern regarding the impact of screens in children’s lives both in school and at home. This week I want to share practical information about how it will work in school.
In order to facilitate Screen Free Week, children in Years 5 to 8 can leave their Chromebooks at home, though if they want to reduce temptation and embrace Screen Free Week at home too, they have been invited to leave them at school.
With regard to Home Learning, Years 3 and 4 will continue to record Home Learning in their planners. Year 5 will receive new planners and will go ‘old school’ with spelling practice and reasoning; and Senior pupils will receive a special Screen Free Week card to log required tasks. No home learning will be set online or will need completion online.
As a community there is a sense of excitement about what next week will teach us. Mr Stanley is busy planning his Screen Free Assembly (possibly outside!), and Mr Evans is wondering about which song we can learn without the words displayed. Staff can only access computers away from classrooms so may well be less responsive than usual; emergency messages will be phoned through to classrooms as normal.
We have created Screen Free Challenges with ideas for activities at home which you can find here. It would be lovely to see what families get up to; please send photos which we will be able to share the following week in assemblies!
Finally, I hope to write an article for publication about this initiative at Edge Grove, and would appreciate some parental feedback if you have a moment to complete this very short survey.
Thank you for your support for Screen Free Week!
