Wednesday 6th May - Gymnastics

The gymnastics training day at High Springers was a fantastic success, filled with energy and determination. The girls practised a variety of vaults and refined their techniques with focus and enthusiasm. They also spent time on the uneven bars, working on control, timing, and confidence.

Throughout the session, there was a strong emphasis on building strength and improving overall fitness. Many of the gymnasts showed excellent resilience, especially when attempting challenging skills. Some even tried new moves for the very first time, demonstrating courage and a willingness to learn.

Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon of progress, teamwork, and positive achievement.

Wednesday 6th May - Cricket

Colts A (Mr McManus)

We played a very competitive game of cricket at Westbrook Hay with our Edge Grove team again bowling and fielding really well. Sami T, Lucy S, Tommy L and Jack D all took a wicket with Tyler Mc, Rafi K and Harry S all taking good catches to support the bowlers. We restricted Westbrook Hay to just 102 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Unfortunately our batting again let us down a bit as we were able to score 89 runs but lost 12 wickets in the process. Tyler top scored again with 21 runs. Our focus for the next match is to be more attacking when the bowler bowls a bad ball but always remember to play straight and block the good bowls.

Colts B (Mr Hunt)

The Edge Grove Colts Boys B team hosted Westbrook Hay School on the Colts Lawn in an exciting pairs cricket fixture. Despite a challenging match, Edge Grove showed excellent determination and moments of fantastic cricket throughout the game. Westbrook Hay ultimately proved too strong, with the final score ending 210–303 in favour of the visitors. There were several standout performances for Edge Grove, most notably from Kush T, who delivered an outstanding all round display. Kush impressed behind the stumps with some excellent wicket keeping, contributed strongly with both bat and ball, and was deservedly voted Player of the Match by the Westbrook Hay team. Luke S, Ben K and Syon T all bowled well and were rewarded with wickets for their efforts, showing great commitment and improving confidence with the ball. Wolf K also made a superb contribution in the field, displaying fearless fielding skills and putting his body on the line on several occasions to prevent balls from reaching the boundary. The team battled hard against a very strong Westbrook Hay side and should be proud of the positive attitude and teamwork they displayed throughout the afternoon. Moving forward, the boys will continue to work on batting against faster bowling and improving communication when batting in pairs to maximise scoring opportunities in future matches.

Colts C (Mr Saunt)

Although it was a bitterly cold start to the day, the weather thankfully became much milder by the afternoon, providing excellent conditions for a fantastic afternoon of cricket between Edge Grove Colts C and Westbrook Hay Colts C.

Westbrook Hay opened the batting and finished on 57 all out. In reply, Edge Grove battled hard throughout their innings and finished on 40 all out, with Westbrook Hay taking the victory by 17 runs.

The final score did not fully reflect the effort, determination and progress shown by the Edge Grove team. Unfortunately, a difficult spell of three to four overs with the ball allowed Westbrook Hay to gain momentum, and to their credit they capitalised well on the opportunity.

There were, however, many positives to take from the fixture. It was particularly pleasing to see several pupils experience hardball cricket for the very first time and show excellent courage and resilience throughout. A special mention must go to Daniel Lynch, who produced an outstanding effort, alongside Oscar Jacobson, who both embraced the challenge brilliantly.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable afternoon with excellent attitude, teamwork and effort shown by all involved. Well done to both teams for the spirit in which the game was played, and we look forward to continuing to develop throughout the term.

Colts D (Mr Bissix)

Edge Grove – 27 Westbrook Hay – 30

In a spirited display of junior cricket, the Edge Grove Colts D team took on Westbrook Hay in a match defined by sharp bowling, high-energy fielding, and some late-innings fireworks. The Edge Grove innings saw a mix of steady accumulation and aggressive boundaries, with Chenlang emerging as the standout performer of the day. Earning the title of High Scorer with an impressive contribution of 21 runs, Chenlang’s ability to find the gaps and strike several well-timed boundaries anchored the team’s total.

Other notable contributions came from Arhaan and Adam, who set a solid foundation early on. Riley and Aiwa added valuable runs in the middle order, while Aahil provided a late boost to the score, helping the team reach a final competitive total of 27.

The bowling attack remained disciplined throughout, frequently putting the Westbrook Hay batters under pressure. The team successfully utilized a rotation of bowlers, with wickets taken by Adam (2), Arhaan, Josh (2), Aiwa, and Chenlang (2). Aiwa and Josh’s final overs were both wicket maidens. The true highlight of the defensive effort was the fielding. Hamza turned in a stellar performance, displaying incredible reflexes and positioning to claim three catches, effectively stalling Westbrook Hay’s momentum every time they looked to build a partnership. It was a fantastic team effort from the Colts D; while Chenlang led the way with the bat, the match was truly bolstered in the field by Hamza’s safe hands and the team’s collective grit.

Colts E (Mr Russell)

Edge Grove 98-1
Westbrook Hay 113-0

The Edge Grove E team played a spirited away fixture against Westbrook Hay this week. Although the boys narrowly lost by 15 runs, the match was full of positives and clear targets for next week.

Our batting was the standout feature of the day. The boys made excellent use of the close boundaries, with almost every partnership scoring consistently:

  • Chimdi & Harry: 23 runs
  • Torin & Jesse: 23 runs
  • Avi & Joshua: 22 runs
  • Alex & Toran: 22 runs
  • Chimdi & Jesse: 9 runs

The narrow margin of defeat came down to “extras” and fielding discipline. We conceded 30 runs in wides and no-balls, which proved costly in such a close game. Additionally, we were unable to take any wickets, so our main focus in training will be sharpening our bowling line and our “ready positions” in the field.

A lot to be proud of, especially the aggressive batting and team spirit. Well done, boys!

Thursday 7th May - Cricket

U8 Girls Pairs Cricket (Miss Evans)

Edge Grove 51-27 Westbrook Hay

The U8 girls’ pairs cricket team made a fantastic start to their cricket journey in their very first match, producing an excellent all-round performance to defeat Westbrook Hay by 51 runs to 27 in an exciting pairs cricket fixture.

The girls showed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination throughout the game, with some outstanding bowling performances helping to keep the opposition’s score low. The fielding effort was equally impressive, highlighted by a brilliant catch from Nyla that brought huge cheers from teammates and supporters alike. Darcey also celebrated a superb wicket during a strong bowling display from the whole team. Elizabeth also worked incredibly hard in the field and remained focused and switched on at all times, helping the team maintain excellent energy throughout the match.

With the bat, the team played confidently and positively. Clara delighted the crowd with a well-struck four, while Alisha produced an outstanding innings, smashing two fours and a huge six to lead the scoring. Her excellent contributions with both bat and ball earned her a well-deserved Batter of the Match and Bowler of the Match award.

For many of the girls, this was their first experience of competitive cricket, but they played with confidence, energy, and great sportsmanship throughout. It was a memorable first match and a brilliant team victory for the U8 girls.

The U8 girls put in a fantastic performance in their Diamond Nine cricket game today, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination throughout. There was some excellent batting on display, with the girls working hard to score runs and communicating brilliantly by calling out clearly to each other while running between the wickets.

In the field, the team showed great focus and effort, stopping several runs with some strong fielding and quick reactions. Everyone played their part and supported each other really well from start to finish.

Overall, it was a fantastic team effort and the girls should be very proud of themselves. Well done!

U8 Mr McManus

The Year 3 boys played their first ever cricket match at Westbrook Hay on Thursday and performed well, learning a lot about the game as the afternoon went on. We bowled well and Freddie S, Isaac J, Noah R and Ayden C all took wickets; however we need to try to be more consistent and concentrate on repeating the same action every ball. Cillian W did well taking an excellent catch in the field. Our batting did let us down a bit as we were very conservative and did not run the singles to accumulate a competitive enough score. More positive batting and running between the wickets is our focus for next week.

U8 Mr Saunt & Mr Bissix

Mr Saunt and Mr Bissix U8 teams travelled to face Westbrook Hay on Thursday 7th May for an enjoyable afternoon of diamond cricket. To ensure maximum participation and match time for all players, the Edge Grove squad was split into three teams of five, alongside one Westbrook Hay team, creating a fun and competitive quadrangular format.

It was fantastic to see such high levels of participation throughout the afternoon, with all players heavily involved in batting, bowling and fielding across the different games. The format created an excellent atmosphere, promoting sport for all, teamwork and continuous activity, with students showing great enthusiasm and effort from start to finish.

A special mention goes to Ruairi , who impressed throughout the afternoon with an excellent all-round performance and superb attitude.

Well done to all involved for representing Edge Grove so positively and making it such an enjoyable afternoon of cricket.

Friday 24th April - Cricket County Cup

U11 Cricket County Cup

We started the term with a bang playing against a very strong Habs’ team in the first round of the Hertfordshire County Cup. Habs are traditionally the favourites for the competition every year however our team can be very proud of how we played. Edge Grove won the toss and put Habs in to bat and every boy and girl played their part, bowling a good line and length and not giving away many extras. Sami T and Rafi K both took a wicket and Christopher impressed with his leg spin bowling. Syon, Lucy, Jack, Tyler and Tommy all bowled well and at the interval I was very impressed by the team’s effort both in the bowling and the fielding. Tyler and Tommy bravely stepped forward to open the batting against an excellent, fast bowling attack and they both did very well, putting on a partnership of 35 runs with Tyler top scoring with 21 runs. We unfortunately lost too many wickets and eventually lost the game convincingly however this was a good way to start the cricket season with many positives and something to build on for the season.

U13 Cricket County Cup
Edge Grove 1st XI vs Sir John Lawes School 1st XI

Edge Grove 1st XI produced an outstanding performance to defeat Sir John Lawes School 1st XI and book their place in the County Cup semi-finals.

Travelling to Harpenden to face the 2025 County Cup holders, Edge Grove lost the toss and were asked to field first. Sir John Lawes made a strong start, with their top order scoring quickly and putting the visitors under early pressure. However, Edge Grove responded superbly with disciplined bowling and excellent control of line and length.

As the pressure mounted, the Edge Grove bowlers began to take regular wickets, preventing the hosts from maintaining their early momentum. Their excellent efforts in the field were rewarded as Sir John Lawes were bowled out for 113.

In reply, Edge Grove faced a challenging opening spell from an impressive Sir John Lawes bowling attack, which claimed Max’s wicket early in the innings. Despite the early setback, Isaac and Noah came together at the crease and initially batted with patience and composure.

Once settled, the pair delivered a batting masterclass. Playing with confidence and maturity, they built an outstanding unbroken partnership of 108, guiding Edge Grove past the target with an over to spare.

Isaac finished on an excellent 52 not out, while Noah remained unbeaten on 44 not out.

Edge Grove secured a superb 9 wicket victory, earning their place in the semi-finals of the County Cup.

Well done to the team on a fantastic performance and best of luck in the next round.

Wednesday 29th April - Seniors and Colts Cricket

U13 Cricket
Edge Grove 1st XI vs St Johns School 1st XI

Just five days after their superb County Cup triumph, Edge Grove travelled to St John’s, Northwood, for another exciting fixture. Once again, luck was not on their side at the toss, and they were asked to field first.

St John’s began their innings in aggressive fashion, launching a fierce attack on the Edge Grove bowling line-up from the outset. Their high scoring rate quickly put Edge Grove under pressure, leading to several mistakes in the field. Despite the bowlers’ best efforts, St John’s posted an impressive total of 144 for 3 in 20 overs.

In reply, Edge Grove made a bright start and looked in control during the early stages of the chase. However, poor shot selection and a lapse in concentration from the top order left the team in serious trouble at 56 for 5.

What followed was one of the finest middle-order recoveries the team has produced. Alex and Aiden K came together and completely turned the match around with a brilliant partnership. Combining powerful stroke play with excellent running between the wickets, they punished the St John’s bowlers and took Edge Grove to within just five runs of the target.

Although both batters were eventually dismissed at a crucial stage, the job was not yet done. With nerves building, Blake and Joseph held their composure and calmly guided Edge Grove over the line, sealing a dramatic victory with one ball to spare.

Edge Grove finished on 147 for 7, completing a remarkable comeback win.

This was an exceptional demonstration of resilience, determination, and teamwork from the Edge Grove side, who showed tremendous character to fight back from a difficult position and secure another memorable victory.

Colts A (Mr McManus)

Edge Grove 108 for 5 wickets = 83 runs

Kingshott 83 for 4 wickets = 63 runs

Edge Grove won by 20 runs

We played our second game of the season against Kingshott in another pairs game. We batted first and Lucy and Jack opened the batting scoring 15 runs in their 4 overs. Tyler and Tommy batted next and scored 25 runs followed by Christopher and Cooper who also scored 25 runs. Rafi and Harry followed next with 18 runs matched by Sami and Garv who batted last. All the pairs batted well and showed how much they have improved in just one week. Our bowling and fielding was again very good and we restricted Kingshott’s scoring opportunities with tight bowling and alert fielding. Tyler, Harry, Sami and Chris all took a wicket to help us to a well deserved victory.

Colts B (Mr Hunt)

Edge Grove Colts Boys Cricket B Team vs Kingshott – Match Report

Edge Grove Colts Boys B kicked off their season with an impressive performance at home against Kingshott, in what proved to be an exciting and competitive fixture.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Edge Grove showed great composure for their first game of the season. The team batted with consistency and discipline throughout the innings, managing to lose just two wickets,an excellent achievement that set a strong foundation. Partnerships were built steadily, with players supporting each other well and maintaining a positive tempo at the crease.

With a solid total of 283 on the board, Edge Grove headed into the field full of confidence. The bowling unit delivered a superb collective effort, applying pressure consistently and being rewarded with six wickets. The fielding effort matched the bowling quality, with strong energy and commitment across the team.

There were several standout contributions worth highlighting. Kush T took on the role of wicket keeper for the first time and performed brilliantly behind the stumps, showing great focus and skill. Teddy W also deserves recognition for stepping in to bowl two overs and contributing positively to the team effort. A special mention must go to Ben K, who demonstrated excellent leadership throughout the match, guiding and encouraging his teammates from start to finish.

In the end, Edge Grove secured a well-earned victory, finishing on 283–267. It was a fantastic team performance and a strong start to the season. While there is still plenty to work on in training, this match showcased the team’s potential and positive attitude.

Well done, boys!

Colts mixed C&D team (Mr Saunt)

It was a fantastic afternoon of cricket yesterday, with the students showing great enthusiasm and clearly enjoying their first fixture of the season. The weather was on our side, providing perfect conditions as we welcomed Kingshott for a well-matched game.

To ensure a balanced contest, we combined players from our C and D teams, which created a strong and competitive unit. A special mention must go to Adam B and Adam L, who sportingly supported the opposition by playing for their team, an excellent display of character and respect for the game.

The match itself was closely contested, with the pairs scores level overall. However, Edge Grove “edged” the result by just six runs, securing a narrow but well-earned victory. More importantly, it was a valuable learning experience and a brilliant training opportunity for all involved.

Well done to all the boys for a superb effort and a positive start to the season.

Thursday 30th April - Year 4 Cricket

U9 Mr Dippenaar

Edge Grove U9A hosted Westbrook Hay at Edge Grove in their first competitive fixture of the summer, and the team’s performance was an extremely promising sign for the season ahead.

Batting first, Edge Grove produced a strong team display to post a total of 249 runs. Veer and Tobi were outstanding with the bat, playing with confidence and composure at the crease. Their efforts were well supported by the rest of the team, who all contributed positively to the innings.

In response, Edge Grove showed great discipline in the field. Ray captained the side superbly, managing his bowlers very effectively throughout the innings. Excellent fielding from the whole team helped to keep the pressure on Westbrook Hay and restricted their scoring opportunities.

All of the bowlers delivered excellent spells, helping to limit Westbrook Hay to 239 runs.

This excellent all-round team performance saw Edge Grove secure a 10 run victory, making it a fantastic start to their competitive summer campaign.

U9 Mr McManus

This was the first game of the season and the boys played with great enthusiasm against a very evenly matched team. Our boys bowled well and were led very well by Arjun in the field who was enthusiastic and took a great catch. Special mention to Ari P and Arjun who also showed great fielding with direct throws at the stumps to run out the opposition batsmen. When the final scores were added up both teams had lost the same amount of wickets but Westbrook Hay had scored more runs from wides and no balls which meant that they won a close match.

U9 Mr Hunt

Edge Grove Year 4 C team began their cricket season with an impressive home performance against Westbrook Hay School, securing a 283–248 victory in an exciting and closely contested fixture. There were several standout contributions, with Max O delivering an excellent all round performance. He was the only player to hit a six and also bowled with notable pace and accuracy. Strong batting displays from Keshav S and Amirtaha N also played a key role in building Edge Grove’s total. The team showed great effort in the field, taking four wickets compared to Westbrook Hay’s single wicket. This was a positive start to the season, though there is still plenty to work on in training, particularly batting technique, as well as continued development in bowling and fielding. Overall, a very encouraging performance, well done, boys. We look forward to the next fixture.

U9 Mrs Emms

A fantastic start to the Year 4 girls’ cricket season!

Toyosi, Bella and Shreya each took a wicket, with Iylah delivering a brilliant stumping and Bella adding a great catch to the highlights. Although it was an unfortunate loss, the girls played an exceptional game—it’s clear how much they’ve improved since last year.

Well done to the whole team!

U9 Mrs Warnes & Mrs O’Brien

Our U9 girls kicked off the season with a fantastic first match, and it was wonderful to see how excited and enthusiastic everyone was to be back playing cricket together.

Anira was our steady and reliable bowler, even delivering a few impressive spin balls that kept the opposition on their toes. Savanna also had a brilliant moment in the field, successfully bowling another player out — a fantastic achievement! The team fielded brilliantly throughout, showing great teamwork and energy, and worked especially hard to call clearly for runs.

It was a strong all-round performance, with the team finishing on an excellent 284 runs for no outs. The girls comfortably beat West Brook Hay by 44 runs — a brilliant start to the season.

Well done, girls!
