Reception entry – September 2019

We have now held our 4+ Assessment for entry in Reception in September 2019. However, we do have a waiting list so please contact Admissions if you would like to add your child to our waiting list.

At the 4+ Assessment children are seen in a small group setting and observed by our Early Years staff. We invite children to participate in a number of age-appropriate activities in small groups, split by age. During the 30-minutes session the children are observed by our teaching staff and offers of places are made on the basis of this assessment. The assessment is supplemented by a report from the child’s current Nursery or Childminder. During this assessment time we aim to maintain a warm and relaxed atmosphere so that the children (and their parents!) need not feel anxious. Offers are made soon after the assessment.

We are looking to fill three classes of 18-19 children for September, including the children who move up from our Pre-School.

How can I apply for a place in Reception?

Stage 1
Contact Mrs Morrison, Marketing and Admissions Manager, for an initial conversation and to add your child’s details to our list for Reception entry. If required she can send you a prospectus or you can request a prospectus online.

Step 2
Arrange to visit Edge Grove to tour the school. Open Mornings are held every term. Click here to view the next Open Morning dates. We also offer small group tours of the Pre Prep every Wednesday morning at 9.30am, led by Mrs Gill Emmerson, Head of Pre Prep. These tours must be pre-booked with Admissions.

Step 3
Following your visit, you will need to register your child for a place at Edge Grove. You can download the registration form here and post it or email it to Admissions. The non-refundable £100 registration fee can be paid via cheque or bank transfer and the details are on the registration form.

Step 4
You’ll be invited to attend the 4+ Assessment for your child’s year group and beforehand we will also contact your child’s current Nursery (if applicable) for their confidential feedback.

Step 5
Following the assessment, if your child is offered a place you will be asked to accept it within two weeks by paying a £2,000 deposit to secure the place. Your child may be added to a waiting list and you will be notified if/when a space becomes available.
