Reception entry – September 2024
Due to unprecedented demand for places, we have now run our Assessment Days for Reception 2024.

For Entry in Reception our 4+ Assessment process is as follows:
Places in Reception are limited. Each year we are looking to fill three classes of 20 children, including the children who move up from our Nursery (up to 40 children).
At the 4+ Assessment children are seen in a small group setting and observed by our Early Years staff for approximately thirty minutes. We invite children to participate in a number of age-appropriate activities in small groups, split by age. The assessment is supplemented by a report from the child’s current Nursery or Childminder. During this assessment time we aim to maintain a warm and relaxed atmosphere so that the children (and their parents!) need not feel anxious. Offers are made soon after the assessment.
How can I apply for a place in Reception?
Stage 1
Please contact our Admissions Department, for an initial conversation and to add your child’s details to our list for Reception entry.
Step 2
Arrange to visit Edge Grove to tour the school. Open Mornings are held at various times during the year. Click here to view the next Open Morning dates. We also offer private tours of the Junior department which must be pre-booked with Admissions.
Step 3
Following your visit, you will need to register your child for a place at Edge Grove. You can download the registration form below and post it or email it to Admissions. The non-refundable £100 registration fee can be paid via bank transfer and our bank details are here.

Step 4
You’ll be invited to attend the 4+ Assessment and beforehand we will contact your child’s current Nursery or Childminder (if applicable) for their confidential feedback.
Step 5
Following the assessment, if your child is offered a place you will be asked to confirm acceptance within two weeks by paying a £2,000 deposit to secure the place. Your child may be added to a waiting list and you will be notified if/when a space becomes available.
