Reception Entry
Places in Reception at Edge Grove are limited; half are usually filled by children moving up from our Nursery, and half by children joining us from a range of local nurseries and daycare settings.
At the Assessment for Reception Entry, children are seen in a small group setting and observed by our Early Years staff for approximately thirty minutes. We invite children to participate in a number of age-appropriate activities in small groups, for which no preparation is necessary. We will always put potential Reception children in a group with others of a similar age; we know that there is a big difference between a child who may already have turned 4 with one who has only recently turned 3. Our main Assessment Days run in the Autumn Term of the year preceding entry to Edge Grove. If spaces remain after this time, we will offer individual or small group assessments until all spaces are filled.
The assessment is supplemented by a report from the child’s current Nursery or Childminder.
During the assessment, we aim to maintain a warm and relaxed atmosphere so that the children (and their parents!) need not feel anxious.
Offers are made soon after the assessment.
