The Prep School at Edge Grove is made up of two areas:
Lower Prep (Years 3-6)
Upper School (Years 7 and 8)
When children join the Prep school at Edge Grove they begin to experience the full breadth of opportunities available to them to enrich their time at Edge Grove. Whether it’s having a go at new sports, learning a new instrument and participating in music ensembles, taking part in drama productions, or experiencing workshops and school trips to inspire them.
At the lower end of the Prep school, we do all we can to ensure the transition to the Prep is smooth and trouble free. Pupils in Years 3 and 4 will spend most of their day in their form room with a form teacher teaching most subjects. Subject specialists will teach PE, art, music, French, computing, drama and technology.
As pupils move into Year 5 they are given greater independence in preparation for starting at senior schools in the next few years. Pupils are in form groups with a form tutor but subjects are taught in specialist rooms, such as the science laboratories for science lessons. By the end of Year 6 pupils move around the school with confidence.
Pupils who stay on for Upper School, or who join us at this point, experience a rewarding two years as they develop their intellectual maturity and take greater responsibility for their learning. Pupils are introduced to the Edge Grove Baccalaureate, an active and stimulating two year programme of study with its clear emphasis on communication, teamwork, leadership and critical thinking. Our aim is to provide an exciting learning environment that equips our pupils to not only transfer successfully to the country’s leading senior schools, but also empowers them to thrive when they get there.
